Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, directed by Karan Johar, opened in theaters on Friday, one week after the global blockbuster ‘Barbenheimer’ event, which saw Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer make over a billion dollars globally in a week. While popularity in Barbie has waned in India (but not in other countries), Oppenheimer remains a huge box office draw. Against this backdrop, Karan is seeking not just to create his own triumphant comeback, but also to remind fans of the importance of star power and traditional Hindi entertainment.

Rocky Aur Rani, according to film producer and trade expert Girish Johar, might generate roughly Rs 10 crore on its opening day, while trade analyst Taran Adarsh believes it could do well in tier one and tier two centers as well as the metro crowds that Karan’s films often pander to.
Only Pathaan and The Kerala Story have achieved blockbuster status among Hindi releases this year. The industry is anticipating the release of high-profile films like as Jawan, Tiger 3, and Dunki. Karan’s first feature film since 2016 is Rocky Aur Rani.
