Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani box office: Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh appear in Karan Johar’s extravagant love film, which is estimated to gross over Rs 12 crore on its first day.
Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, directed by Karan Johar, opened in theaters on Friday, one week after the global blockbuster ‘Barbenheimer’ event, which saw Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer make over a billion dollars globally in a week. While popularity in Barbie has waned in India (but not in other countries), Oppenheimer remains a huge box office draw. Against this backdrop, Karan is seeking not just to create his own triumphant comeback, but also to remind fans of the importance of star power and traditional Hindi entertainment.
Rocky Aur Rani Kii stars Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh, as well as industry heavyweights Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi, and Jaya Bachchan. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Prem Kahaani is predicted to earn Rs 12 crore on its first day in India. It had a 12% occupancy rate in the Hindi market for morning programming. This is neither good nor horrible, and it falls squarely in the middle of what a few of comparable Hindi-language love plays produced during their initial runs.
Although Laxman Utekar’s Zara Hatke Zara Bachke earned little more than Rs 5 crore on its first day, Sameer Vidwans’ Satyaprem Ki Katha earned slightly less than Rs 10 crore, and Luv Ranjan’s Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar earned slightly more than Rs 15 crore. In a year that hasn’t been kind to Bollywood, each of these films has been deemed a success. Pinkvilla reports that the film would be shown on over 3,200 screens across the country.
Rocky Aur Rani, according to film producer and trade expert Girish Johar, might generate roughly Rs 10 crore on its opening day, while trade analyst Taran Adarsh believes it could do well in tier one and tier two centers as well as the metro crowds that Karan’s films often pander to.
Only Pathaan and The Kerala Story have achieved blockbuster status among Hindi releases this year. The industry is anticipating the release of high-profile films like as Jawan, Tiger 3, and Dunki. Karan’s first feature film since 2016 is Rocky Aur Rani. While Alia has her Hollywood debut, Heart of Stone, on August 11, there’s a lot riding on the picture for Ranveer, who hasn’t had a success since Gully Boy in 2019.
